Kwalizwi Multi-purpose Community Upliftment Centre - Background

As a multi-cultural church, Westville Christian Fellowship (WCF), has been operating in the greater Westville/Chesterville geographic area for over 25 years. Due to our commitment to meet the spiritual and social needs of the community and society we serve, there has been an increasing focus on the need for acquiring property and constructing of a building which will provide a suitable base to serve the local church and the community at large. We have acquired property in the Chesterville at a cost of R600 000 and will move into Phase 1 of the new premises in 2009. We continue to believe God for his provision, and stand together as a family...He will supply all that is needed according to His riches and Glory. 

Below is an overview of the development philosophy and a brief outline of the key components of the development:

Development Mission Statement

To provide a multi-use facility to serve as a community building program to meet the needs of the broader community in the areas of:
  • Education and Training, inclusive of Adult Education; Literacy; Entrepreneurship; Health issues (inclusive of AIDS); Individual and family counselling and various other education and training needs that may be identified.
  • Social Services, inclusive of AIDS counselling & support services; as well family and community outreach initiatives.
  • Provision of facilities for use by private business, government and Public Benefit Sector, inclusive of micro conferences, music and arts events.
  • Partnership with South Africa Correctional Services / Westville Prison in the implementation of Restorative Justice Initiatives. Restorative Justice includes the reconciliation and orientation of prisoners to their families before and after their release from prisoners, as well as the facilitation of reconciliation and forgiveness between prisoners and victims or victim's family members.
  • WCF and Simunye Apostolic Ministries (see Translocal) will be the two organisations responsible for the provision of administrative capacity, to manage the optimal use of the various facilities provided by the centre.
  • The facility will also serve the worship, community development and training initiatives of these WCF & SAM and in so doing contribute towards the spiritual upliftment of the community.

Development Composition

To provide an integrated and sustainable development that will comprise the following core elements, namely:
  • Multi-Use Auditorium - This will be a multi-use flexible space to meet development mission statement.
  • Multi-Use Auditorium associated Spaces, such as storerooms, kitchen, toilets, and circulation space.
  • Administration Wing (Centre Administration as well as WCF & SAM administration)
  • Education and Training Wing, comprising various training and education facilities inclusive of a creche/Pre-Primary
  • Ancillary Building Services
  • Parking, Perimeter Fencing and Landscaping

Development Approach

The Development Approach simplistically stated is as follows:
  • The anchor tenants will be Westville Christian Fellowship and Simunye Apostolic Ministries.
  • The zoning to be applied for is Education and Public Assembly.
  • Social Outreach programmes, as outlined in the Development Mission Statement, will be provided by WCF, SAM and local and international groups/individuals, and will be run from the Centre. for use/rental by various bodies such as businesses
  • The Auditorium and training venues will be available; institutions, all tiers of government, and recognised NGOs & CBOs.
